This issue of our Small Business Legal Update is designed to help you avoid scams. They come at you from every direction daily: phone calls, emails, text messages, junk mail. Sometimes when we are busy or distracted, we can fall prey to the scammer's tactics. When something seems a little off, or is plainly fishy, pause! Then think, before you act.


Bank of America sent me a reminder of some ways to spot and avoid scams, which I am passing along to you today. See below, even if you have seen reminders like this before from your own Bank. They Ask For Your Personal Information or Codes

Did You Know that May 1st is Law Day? This event goes back to 1958, but may be celebrated on different days in May, or even late April, by legal organizations as a public service event.

The American Bar Association created the theme for Law Day 2023 as: "Cornerstones of Democracy: Civics, Civility, and Collaboration"


Here are a few events that occurred in Michigan this year to celebrate Law Day:


  • The 23rd District Court hosted its 2nd annual Law Day for Taylor District 3rd grade students on Friday April 28th.


  • Western Michigan University's Cooley Law School hosted a webinar on May 1st at Noon, featuring Keynote Speaker, Elizabeth T. Clement, Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice.



  • The Michigan Supreme Court Learning Center hosted In-Person Tours for students on May 2nd from 9am to 4pm EST to celebrate Law Day.


  • The Detroit Bar Association hosted its Law Day program on May 3rd, for high school students interested in legal careers.
